OLD FLAME is pleased to announce its brand new t-shirt line featuring authentic matchbook art. The new t-shirt collection highlights twenty-eight pieces of classic matchbook art dating back to the 1940’, 50’s and 60’s. The iconic images stem from restaurants, hotels and nightclubs across the nation.
OLD FLAME was created by Paul Devitt, the owner of Beauty Bar, a retro salon-styled cocktail lounge with outposts in six cities across the U.S. Devitt is a connoisseur of all things vintage and has made a career out of his passion. From purchasing and reopening several stainless steel diners to retrofitting a fifties pharmacy into a bar in NYC, Devitt has spent a lifetime studying and collecting objects from the past.
"I've always been attracted to the lines and shapes of mid century design and vintage matchbook imagery,” said Paul Devitt, Founder of OLD FLAME. “I scoured countless flea markets, auctions, thrift stores and estate sales in search of the most classic and original matchbook art to feature on our Old Flame t-shirts, and I am very proud of the collection that we have put together.”
Matchbooks were the business card of the era. They were ephemera; written on, burned up in the space of a weekend, but now they're a keepsake. A simple line drawing of the logo, the facade (or both), the address, phone number and always the instructions to "close cover before striking". They are the perfect souvenir from the bygone days of swizzle sticks, steamer trunks and, let's not forget, smoking.
OLD FLAME is excited to bring the classic images back to the forefront of American culture with its new t-shirt line. The high quality, all American-made cotton and cotton-poly blend t-shirts are available in a variety of colors and offer an array of vintage matchbook imagery.
